How to use this site

The Kent State University Student Financial Aid Web site offers you one of the most complete sources of financial aid information of any institution. Our home page is is designed to link you to the information you need contained within our Web site or other sites. Our other pages contain links to related information and many have tabs for quick navigation. Our "Learning Center" (see main links at the top of our pages) organizes much of the information you will need. We also provide many Web page features that will help you better utilze the site.

What you will find on our site
Our site primarily addresses the financial aid process here at Kent State University, but also contains a wealth of information that can be universally applied. Our "Other Resources" page directs you to a broad range of financial information such as outside scholarships, financial planning, federal and state sites and much more. Students do not directly access their personal financial aid information on our Web site. View the chart below to see where to go for help in these areas.

How do I apply and receive aid?
Students apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is application for federal and state grants, federal loans and federal work study. The Student Financial Aid Office has a priority processing deadline for the FAFSA of March 1st each academic year. Eligible students who have their FAFSA processed by the government by March 1st will receive priority consideration for these programs. Filing on time does not guarantee that a student will receive these funds as some programs have limited funding.

After the Student Financial Aid Office receives your valid FAFSA information from the federal processor we will determine you eligibility for financial aid and send you an award letter explaining what awards you are eligible to receive and the amounts..

Learning about the financial aid process
For most students the financial aid process is pretty straight-forward. Completing the FAFSA in a timely manner is the primary requirement to apply for federal and state aid. However, many students will be required to submit additional information based on their specific situation. Our Web site displays both the basic information regarding the financial aid process, as well as, student-specific information such as academic progress, verification, veterans benefits, transfer and transient students and much more.

You may visit our office or contact us via telephone or email. Each student is assigned a personal financial aid counselor based on the first letter of their last name. You may email or make an appointment to see your personal financial aid counselor or contact our telephone or email specialists. The choice is yours.
