FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
for Parent PLUS Borrowers


The following questions and answers apply to the 2009/2010 academic year
(Summer 2009, Fall 2009, Spring 2010)


1. What is the PLUS Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)?
  The eMPN is a promissory note that can be used to borrow one or more Federal Parent PLUS for one or more academic years for one dependent student. You will receive a Disclosure Statement from the Department of Education for every loan assigned to your eMPN.
   
2. What is the PIN?
  Your PIN issued by the Department of Education allows you to electronically sign the eMPN, sign the FAFSA, and access other Department of Education records. If you do not know your PIN, visit the PIN website at www.pin.ed.gov.
   
3. When can I sign the eMPN?
  If you know your PIN, you are ready to sign the eMPN. Follow the Electronic Signatures... Easy as 1, 2, 3 instructions.
   
4. What if I do not sign my eMPN?
  Your Parent PLUS award will be cancelled by Student Financial Aid. 
   
   
6. When will my loan funds be credited to the student account?
  Loan funds for Fall 2009 semester will be credited to your student's account after August 21, 2009. Loan funds for Spring 2010 will be credited to your student's account January 9, 2010. Your student must have met all compliance requirements at the time the funds credit to the Bursar Office student account.
   
7. What if I have more than one dependent student receiving the PLUS Parent loan?
  You will need to sign a separate PLUS MPN for each dependent student even if they attend the same school and have the same parent borrower.
