1. What is the Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)?
  The eMPN is a promissory note that can be used to borrow one or more Federal Direct Loans for one or more academic years. You will receive a Disclosure Statement from the Department of Education for every loan assign
The following questions and answers apply to the 2008/2009 academic year (Summer 2008, Fall 2008, Spring 2009)

2. What is the PIN?
  The PIN issued by the Department of Education allows you to electronically sign the eMPN, file the FAFSA, and access other Department of Education records. If you do not know your PIN, visit the PIN website at www.pin.ed.gov.
   
3. What if I signed the MPN in a previous school year?
  If the MPN you signed in a previous year is still valid at the Department of Education, you do not have to sign another one. If you never borrowed the loan funds, the previous MPN is no longer valid.
   
4. What if I signed the MPN at a previous school?
  If you signed the MPN at a previous Direct Loan school, you are not required to sign another MPN unless that note is no longer valid at the Department of Education. 
   
5. When can I sign the eMPN?
  If you know your PIN, you are ready to sign the eMPN. Follow the Electronic Signatures... Easy as 1, 2, 3 instructions. 
   
6. What if I do not sign my eMPN?
  Your loan will be cancelled by Student Financial Aid.
   
7. What if I do not want to sign electronically on the Web?
  You must contact the Student Financial Aid Office to request a paper promissory note. For the 2008-2009 year, Direct Loans will be printing the promissory note and mailing it directly to you with directions on returning the completed promissory note back to Direct Loans. They will then notify the Student Financial Aid Office that it has been completed. This process could take 2 - 3 weeks to be fully completed. Direct Loans will mail the promissory note to your permanent address that is listed on Flashline.
   
8. When will Student Financial Aid receive notification from the Department of Education regarding my eMPN status?
  The Student Financial Aid Office will not be able to give you the status of your MPN until after your loan request has been electronically submitted to the Department of Education. Student Financial Aid will begin to receive notifications for 2008-2009 after July 1, 2008.
   
9. What is entrance loan counseling?
  Entrance loan counseling provides information regarding Direct Loans such as managing your educational expenses and loan repayment options. Entrance loan counseling ensures that you have a full understanding of the rights and responsibilities you are entitled to with a Direct Loan.
   
10. When will my loan funds be credited to my student account?
  Loan funds for Fall 2008 semester will be credited to your student account after August 15, 2008 if you have met all compliance requirements.
